This is the Coyolxauhqui stone discovered by electricity workers in 1978. It's discovery sparked the Templo Mayor Project, which involved demolition of several historic colonial buildings in the centre of Mexico City. Thanks to the excavations we now know that this stone lay at the foot of the south stair of the 4th rebuilding of the temple (ca 1469-81). It is a huge stone 3.25 meters across and the figure is both impressisve and terrifying; the sister of Huitzilopochtli completely dismembered. coyolxauhqui
